Photography
Photography started it all. This hobby taught me design, colors, composition, people skills, and most importantly creativity.
Photography catalyzed my joy for programming. My initial decision to study computer science and programming was because it was a safe and practical bet. Gonna be honest here, when I first started out I felt like writing code was not my calling. My first programming course was "Basic Methodologies of C++" and taken in an uninspring classroom where we all built the same boring and basic projects displayed in the TERMINAL BLEH.
I switched majors and dropped programming entirely beacuse of how uninterested I was in it and went on to start a photography career which fed my constant desire to create. As my freelance business gained traction, I needed a portfolio but Square Space and Wordpress wasn't cutting it. Every free and paid template I came across was missing something I NEEDED. My portfolio needed my own touch... so I had to revisit an old friend, "HELLO WORLD" (again).
I learned about web development and design principles and everything in programming I struggled to learn finally clicked. This was the defining moment that lead me to Frontend and Fullstack development.
There are a lot of cool and pretty looking things floating around in my head and JavaScript, HTML, and CSS are the magical tools that bring them all to life.
Being a Freelance Photographer taught me how to unlock my creativity. When we see a gorgeous photo we never really thing about all the technical stuff that happens behind the scenes such as lighting, compostion, F-stop, Aperature, ISO, etc. Same goes for web development. When we see a gorgeous website, we don't really think about the lines of code required to structure and layout the entire site. Photography to me is not just about getting the shot, but creating it. The neat part? There are endless ways to produce the ideal shot.
Photography taught me how to embrace the hardwork to produce something beautiful.
